5 Tips for Choosing the Right Photos for Online Dating

Updated: Jan 21, 2022

Let's choose the right photos for online dating

As we move into one of the busiest times of the year for online dating, it is time to refresh your photos! While your online dating profile opening lines may need a tiny tweak, as a dating consultant I know the importance of your photos---we do live in a visual society and before potential dates review your profile, it is that first photo that drives them to your second, third, fourth, etc. photo before they delve into your online profile, likes and dislikes. You do not have to change all your photos, but let’s get 2-3 new ones including a new primary photo.

The past week---this has been my mantra with all my clients! Photos, photos and photos.

So, let’s get rolling:

1. Make it simple. No, you do not need to go hire a professional photographer again. Casual photos as you are out with friends and family will work---simply have them snap a few of you, preferably alone! Resolution at least 1mb, please.

2. Hmmmm, seems many of you have travel plans over the next two weeks—I have clients traveling to Madrid, Iceland, Monterey, Sydney and London (just to name a few).

Ok, you are not on an “official photoshoot,” but do not forget about your dating profile pics. Have a friend shoot a few photos with great backgrounds.

We all love the Sydney Opera House---with YOU in it! Please do not take “scenic” pics---you would not believe how many clients take a photo of the Taj Mahal---without them in it!

3.

Holiday sells. Huh? Some photos I loved from last year---you holding a beautiful roasted turkey platter garnished to the nines, a gracious holiday table setting with you and seven friends (just make certain we can see you), one of my Hampton clients on the beach with a Santa hat, a shot of you in front of the Rockefeller Christmas tree.

Then my more creative clients: no tree up yet and thus went to Home Depot and took a photo in front of a Christmas tree (no, I would have NEVER guessed in a million years they were at…. Home Depot!).

Costco is full decorated as are the Macy specialty holiday shops. I never guessed Lauren was holding an ornament in Macy’s---I just thought her home was over the top decorated! Kara in San Diego had a highly commented photo of her on her red Vespa with a Christmas hat---well, Kara is now engaged but she told me nearly every man commented on that photo!

4. Early skiers. If Aspen and Tahoe get early snow, have a friend snap your photo---but please take off your goggles and helmet so we can see you.

5. Allll rightyyyy…I know I harp on this…but I just want you to have major success dating. Here we go: No photos of your Lamborghini,

Harley, a big fish you caught, a mirror selfie, any selfie, you with no shirt on unless you are water skiing (hey, where’s your life vest), scenery photos sans you, your private plane (be subtle, guys), an oddly cropped photo where you removed your ex, a LinkedIn-ish photo, crossed arms, your young kids (huge no-no), remove the sunglasses so we can see your eyes.

November and December are two of my (and the internet’s) busiest dating months. For many, after the last 18 months, this is just a happy, festive time with good cheer and excitement. For others who have experienced losses over the past few years, it is a wonderful time to get caught up in whirlwind dating with the dating sites/apps memberships increasing and new singles to meet.

My clients: I would love to see your recent photos so text away.

For my soon to be clients---it is an exhilarating time to jump in and date! Just call me (702-494-7344) and I will let you know after a 10-minute chat if I am the right fit for you and can take you on as a client. Now is the time to sign up and take advantage of holiday dating and fun.

Let me do the work—it will help you have the fun. Who doesn't want an online dating coach, objective party and cheerleader on their side?

Navigating online dating is what I do best. Click here to sign up today and be dating this week!

Love, Andrea
