Happy Mother’s Day first!!!

Here’s a  little love-life accounting for the summer ahead.

Why am I writing this?  Last week I spoke with 3 people (non-clients—two are now new clients)

In 2025:

Cara,63, Told me she spend $3156 on Dating last year with Zero results

Thomas, a good looking doctor age 67, spent over $5,000

Michael, age 58, accomplished architect won the contest at over $7,000    ugh, ick, Lots of $$$

Me:   WHAT???   What are you doing?  Who is giving you advice?  Bad local small matchmakers? On the wrong sites?    The answers coming from these intelligent people were shocking.

No, seriously.  What the heck?   In 3 months, 65% of my clients are dating someone they really like…with help.

Dating has officially become its own line item.

According to BMO’s 2026 Real Financial Progress Index, Americans now spend an average of $189 per date and $2,323 a year on dating.

That includes dinner, drinks, grooming, transportation, outfits, hair, makeup, shoes, Ubers, and possibly the emotional recovery pastry required after someone says, “I’m just seeing what’s out there.”

Charming.

And here’s the part nobody really wants to say:

You can spend $2,323 this year on the wrong dates…

Or you can start getting much more strategic about how you date.

Now, I don’t usually compare the cost of dating to the cost of hiring someone like me, because love is not a tax deduction.

Although, frankly, some of your dates should qualify as business losses.

But for successful singles 45–65+, the real cost is not just the check at the end of the night.

It’s the time.

The mental bandwidth.

The bad screening.

The wrong apps.

The exhausted optimism.

The “he seemed so normal in the first three texts” problem.

After 30+ years in this industry as a dating strategist, matchmaker and dating coach — and more than 33,000 first dates curated — I can tell you this:

Most people are not failing at dating because they are unattractive, uninteresting, or “too old.”

They are failing because they are winging it.

And winging it is expensive.

A good dating strategist does not just help you “date more.”

Please. Anyone can date more. Download an app and brace yourself.

The goal is to date smarter — with better positioning, better screening ,and  better choices.

Here’s why that matters now:

1. You stop wasting premium time on bargain-bin strategy. You would not run a business, hire a key employee, or invest serious money without a plan. Yet people treat their love life like a roulette wheel with appetizers.

2. You find out what is actually stopping you.

It is rarely “there are no good people out there.” More often, it is your profile, your photos, your patterns, your expectations, your selection process — or your picker, which may need a full factory reset.

3. You get out of your own head .Dating after 45 can come with luggage. Divorce luggage. Disappointment luggage. “I know exactly how this ends” luggage. Strategy helps you stop dragging the entire emotional Samsonite collection into every new conversation.

4. You stop confusing activity with progress.

Swiping, texting, chatting, browsing, and going out are not the same as moving toward the right relationship. Busy is not a dating plan. It is just thumb cardio with mascara.

5. You become easier to find — by the right person. The best singles are not always the loudest, flashiest, or most obvious. Your profile, presence, and approach need to attract the kind of person you actually want — not just the person who likes your vacation photo and says, “You seem fun.”

Groundbreaking.

6. You make this summer different

.Not busier.

Not more random.

Not another round of “let’s see what happens,” which is often how people end up with a calendar full of mediocre dinners and a nervous system filing a complaint.

Different.

Smarter.

More intentional.

Because if you are going to invest in dating this Summer, invest in a way that gives you better odds.

Love is not luck. It’s strategy.

BTW--last week I has two engagements---you'll hear more this week as they are writing up something and sending me their photos.....I was thrilled all day. Goosebumps.

And, strategy has gotten me over 10,000+ marriages.  (hey, it’s ok if you don’t want marriage, but how about a long term romantic relationship)

And summer is a very good time to stop winging it.
