What’s the secret of successful online daters?

I think about this all the time.

For over 30 years.

Yes, you can have a beautiful profile.

Well-written.

Great photos.

You’re on the right dating site.

No, that does not mean success.

The secret sauce is simple.

Confidence.

It comes across in messaging.

It comes across on the phone or FaceTime.

It comes across on first dates.

If you don’t have it, your success will be limited.

And frustrating as hell.

And the funny thing?

You’re confident in your career, sports… in most parts of your life.

Is it teachable with dating?

Yes. It absolutely is.

I coach on this non-stop and I love it.

When I hear your AH-HA moment, I’m excited.

Confidence comes from practice.

My youngest daughter is a competitive swimmer.

We talk about this all the time. Confidence. To be a top swimmer, you need confidence.

It only comes from practice and a good coach.

No different in dating.

Here’s one example from last week (names + locations changed, real story):

Christina. Successful. Loves being an ob/gyn. In the week between our calls, she’d found a man she really liked.

Lots of texts. Two phone calls.

Me: How was the date, Christina? Her: Oh… no date. He hasn’t said anything.

Me: Oh no. Let’s stop this cycle.

Here’s what we sent him:

“Hey Thomas, it’s been a super busy week for me but I wanted to make time to meet. How is Friday around 1pm for lunch or Saturday around 4 for a drink? Let’s meet at either Carlotta’s or Rocco’s — which day works?”

Her text to me, three hours later:

“Andrea, I have a date Friday with Thomas. I’m excited. What you said worked.”

Why did it work?

A confident message.

She wasn't afraid to say she was busy.

And the more you do this — without all the endless texting — the more your odds go up.

Dramatically.
